The Greatest Indian Athlete ever. Fighting poverty and deprivation he reached the pinnacle of sporting in 1960, when he broke the world record for 400 mts in 1960 Rome Olympics. So great was the nationwide appreciation for this hero that when he returned from Rome, Pt. Nehru, the then Prime Minister had gone to receive him at the Delhi Airport.
The first batsman in the world to aggregate more than 10,000 runs in Test Cricket. He totalled 35 Test Centuries a record that remains unbroken to the this Day. Sunil Gavaskar ruled the Indian Cricketing scene for a decade and a half.
His legacy is being carried forward by Sachin Tendulkar.

Pt Usha collected four Gold and one silver medal in the Seol Asiad in 1986.
In 1987 he became the First Asian to win the World Junior Championship at Baguio City in the Philippines. The same year he became the first Indian to earn the coveted Grandmaster title.
As he grew in strength and reputation, in 1991, he won the strongest tournament at that time, The “Reggio Emilia” in Italy in 1991 ahead of Kasparov & Karpov.
The pinnacle of his career was achieved on December 24, 2000 when Anand became the 15th World Chess Champion in Teheran. Anand won the championship by remaining unbeaten. By winning the title, Anand becomes the First Asian to win the title ending many years of Soviet Domination of the Ancient Indian game.

Jeev Milkha Singh on Sunday added a golden chapter in Indian golf when he lifted the Volvo Masters at the Club de Golf Valderrama and became the first Asian to win in Europe.
The biggest win of Jeev's career came when he calmly carded a one-over 72 and collected the winning cheque of Euros 666,660 (USD 840,855), the biggest cheque won by an Indian in an individual sport.
